Question by : I'm having blurry edge definition and a black blur on my Philips HD CRT, can it be fixed? Hello, I have a 2004 Philips 30pw850h37a, for being almost 8 years old its a great television. I know what your thinking, trade it in for an LCD but that's not the point here lol, I have an LCD already but I really love my HD CRT because it makes my old games look fantastic and the picture quality is incredible still! So my Tv channels looks great from my converter box and antenna! However, I notice that there is a blurring at the edges when using the 1080i HD via component cable. I am using my Xbox 360 on the HD and Text is unreadable on games mainly at the top right. The picture at the center of the screen is very crisp and good though. Additionally, I notice that there sometimes is a slight black blur on the bottom right edge when playing video games. The blur seems to fluctuate and grow or shrink as I move around in video games such as modern warefare. I thought it may be my Xbox but it also happens when playing my PS2 and Dreamcast. This fluctuating black blur only occurs noticeably on the right side of the tv screen and the left is perfect always. I don't know if this helps but when i play my Nintendo 64 on the tv, there is no blur at all, the picture is just perfect with amazing color and all! I really don't believe that my game systems are flawed. Now why the old 64 looks incredible and the others have that black blur problem is beyond me. Could this possibly be a convergence problem or could my HD component input circuitry be messed up? Or could it be the tube itself? Maybe does it need to be de gaussed? Any information is gladly appreciated! Thanks! Best answer for I'm having blurry edge definition and a black blur on my Philips HD CRT, can it be fixed?:

I am not certain as to what you are asking but have you tried degaussing the crt? If you are not certain as to what is meant by degaussing - then here's a simple method to try out and see if it helps clean up the screen - without a degaussing coil. You will want to degauss or demagnetize the crt - you will need something that carries a magnetic field such as a electric drill or even a hand vacuum cleaner and being away from the crt screen, turn on the motor drill or whatever, - slowly move it toward the crt (in front) while drawing circles of about 6" - around and around until it comes fairly close to the screen - all the while the motor must be running - the Tv can be on or off - but on you can see what it is doing. Do not turn off the motor at any time during this procedure. As you get close to the surface of the screen continue rotating the drill or ? - and then slowly continue to rotate the running motor in circles and start backing away all the will moving the motor until you are about 3 feet or so and out of range with the magnetic field. If you leave the tv on you will see when the field from the motor starts to affect the crt - After you get about 3 feet or so from the crt you can then shut it off. If you have followed thes poor instructions your should have seen your results. If that doesn't fix you crt then you may have a screen matrix problem and it is then calling for a replacement crt - not a job for a beginner. Hope this has been a help.

A strategy that can used on its own, or in conjunction with other strategies, this is one of my favorites. Why do I like it? It gets a trader into a move early, using a couple of confirmation tools. While no system is perfect, this strategy does often provide very high rewards for the risk, and we often know quite quickly if the market gave us the correct signal.
I will call this strategy the Truncated Price Swing.
A truncated move I will describe simply as a move that falls short of the previous move. I especially like this near the open. This is often when the most profit potential is available, but it can be used at any point in the trading day. Let's say a $ 50 stock drops $ 0.50 off the open, pulls up and then start heading back to test the lows. But this current price swing fails to reach it. This can provide a low risk opportunity to enter the market long (in this example), and the entry could be based off another signal, such as a doji, engulfing pattern or trend line bounce.
Using profit targets and estimated daily ranges a high reward to risk trade can be set up.
The down side is that we don't know if (in this example) the stock is actually going to reverse, although based on the evidence we are making a educated estimate that it will. We are buying on the truncation using a simple signal, but in a few minutes the market could head back lower and break the lows (or highs if shorting an up move). As I am writing this, this strategy could have been used on July 10, 2009 (check out your intra-day charts). It sets a low, then sets high, then lower low, but when it tries to test the highs again it fails. In this example a small range was created below the old high (rectangle).
A break below the little range singled the truncation and short could have been place around the bottom of the rectangle. The market for much of the rest of the day.To summarize we are watching for any move that is heading to test a daily high or low, but does make it there. Once the price stalls and starts to reverse away from the daily high or low, we are watching for a confirmation signal - this could be a candle stick pattern, bounce off a trend line, or as in the example above, a collection of bars and then a breakout from those bars away from the daily high or low.
Stops can be placed outside the daily high or low, or alternatively just above the truncated high or low which will likely not be too far from where we entered our position.
Profit targets for this trade vary on the daily market dynamics.
