Need practice speed reading? Well, then stop paying too much for speed reading technique classes and prep yourself for the future speed reading you. It's not that speed reading classes do not work, they often do, but there is also a lot of baloney out there. Rather, than buying all the programs and getting conflicted into which ones work and which ones don't, why not see what works for you first, and then pick one that fits your skill level, psyche, temperament, attention span, and needs. How so you ask?

One way I recommend to improve your reading speed is to grab a stack of old trade journals from any industry; a couple of years worth will really help you. Next, start flipping through each trade journal trying to read as much as you can and take in as much information as possible, but only allowing yourself a couple of minutes, five at the most with each magazine.

As you flip through them, you know you won't be able to read all of it, so rip out the pages that you want to read later and read the small articles as fast as you can.

Now then, after doing this for about 30 minutes, start reading through the articles that you clipped or tore out, and take notes. But only give yourself a few minutes on each article, and pick out only the important points, facts, figures, and statistics. Then go have lunch.

When you come back, look at your notes, and try to recall what each article was about and then look through the articles and read them very slowly and test yourself. This is one of the best ways to improve your speed reading, and it doesn't cost you much of anything. When you do this practice exercise you will have reached an incredible speed reading level.
